University of Miami Miller School of Medicine
The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is one of the largest and busiest medical centers in the country. At the core of the medical
center are the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, a research, teaching and educational institution, and a newly acquired University of Miami Hospital, a 560-bed, single-room facility, located across the street from the medical school.
University of Miami faculty-physicians are major providers of patient
care in South Florida. The
Miller School of Medicine is recognized nationally for its clinical,
research and educational programs. With over 1.5 million square feet of
research space, and more than $191 million in research funding (grant and
contract revenues), the Miller School of Medicine comprises one of the largest
research facilities in the world.
The UM Miller School of Medicine has more than 1,000 full-time faculty members
and an additional 400 research personnel. Clinical and basic science
research crosses all disciplines, from pediatrics and epidemiology to
HIV/AIDS, psychiatry, genetics and the neurosciences.

- U.S.News & World Report's annual "Best Hospitals" issue in 2007 listed four UM specialties among the nation's best:
Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has been named the nation's #1 eye hospital for the past four consecutive years.
Nearly 2,000 U.S. hospitals were reviewed in this peer survey. Three other University of Miami Miller School of Medicine
programs joined Bascom Palmer in this year's U.S.News rankings: Ear, Nose and Throat (No. 17), Digestive Disorders (No. 32),
and Kidney Disease (No. 32).
- Currently, there are more than 1,300 research projects taking place at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine,
thanks to $188.6 million in external grants and contracts generated by the faculty.
- The school ranks in the top third among U.S. medical schools in terms of research funding awarded. The School of Medicine campus consists of 35 acres within the 80-acre complex of the UM/ Jackson Memorial Medical Center, including more than 2 million square feet of research space.
