Research Summary
My research program is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of macular diseases. My interests include early-onset and late-onset maculopathies, particularly age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the genetics of AMD, and anti-antiogenic therapies in neovascular AMD.
Clinical Trials for Age-Related Macular Degeneration. Currently, I am the principal investigator for nine prospective studies investigating pharmacotherapies for the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration. These studies are at various stages of completion and additional studies are planned for the coming year. The studies currently underway are as follows:
- Prospective Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Imaging of Patients with Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Treated with Intra-Ocular Lucentis™ (Ranibizumab): PrONTO Study
Sponsor: Investigator-Sponsored Trial through Genentech, Inc., San Francisco
- Systemic Avastin™ for Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration (SANA) Study
Sponsor: Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and Research to Prevent Blindness
- A Phase II/III Dose-Ranging Trial to establish the Safety and Efficacy of Intravitreal Injections of EYE001 (Anti-VEGF Pegylated Aptamer)
Sponsor: Eyetech Pharmaceuticals, Inc., New York
- A Randomized, Double-Masked, Multi-Center Trial of the Safety, Tolerability, and Pharmacokinetics of 1 mg/eye and 3 mg/eye Intravitreal Injections of Pegaptanib Sodium (Anti-VEGF Pegylated Aptamer) Given Every 6 Weeks for 54 Weeks, in Patients with Exudative Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
Sponsor: Eyetech Pharmaceuticals, Inc., New York
- An Extension Study to Evaluate the Safety and Tolerability of Multiple-Dose Intravitreal Injections of rhuFab V2 in Subjects with Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration Who Have Completed the Treatment Phase of a Genentech-Sponsored Phase I or Phase I/II rhuFab V2 Study
Sponsor: Genentech, Inc., San Francisco
- An Open-label Evaluation of Long Term Efficacy and Safety of Posterior Juxtascleral Injections of Anecortave Acetate 15 mg in Patients with Subfoveal Exudative Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Who Were Enrolled in Alcon Study C-98-03 (Alcon C-03-15)
Sponsor: Alcon Research, Ltd.
- An Evaluation of Efficacy and safety of Posterior Juxtascleral Administrations of Anecortave Acetate for Depot Suspension (15 mg or 30 mg) versus Sham Administration in patients at Risk for Developing Sight-Threatening Choroidal Neovascularization (CNV) Due to Exudative Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD): Anecortave Acetate Risk-Reduction Trial
Sponsor: Alcon Research, Ltd.
- A Phase III Multicenter, Randomized, Double-Masked, Sham-Injection, Controlled Study of the Efficacy and Safety of rhuFab V2 in Subjects with Minimally Classic or Occult Subfoveal Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration (FVF2598g MARINA Study))
Sponsor: Genentech, Inc., San Francisco
- A Phase III Multicenter, Randomized, Double-Masked, Sham-Injection, Controlled Study of the Efficacy and Safety of rhuFab V2 in Subjects with Predominantly Classic Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration (FVF2587g ANCHOR Study)
Sponsor: Genentech, Inc., San Francisco
